RE: Archview Campground in Moab?

I don't think Colorado is on anyones list since anyone coming to Colorado must buy a permit for $25. Colorado is not on the Utah list and Jasona33xj has a long list of HOVs at $30 each.

RE: Archview Campground in Moab?

It's a good place to stay, we enjoyed it. I don't know about the overpriced part since it's been a few years. You can ride from the campground to some beautiful canyons on the west side of the hwy. As the Texan said there are boondocking spots everywhere in the area with better views and less people.
Did you know you now need Utah permits for your ATVs and dirt bikes at $30 each.
I looked at my past post in Toy and see you do know.

RE: wind generator alternative

I looked at 1 for the MH, 150 to 400 watt, starts generating in a 15MPH wind. The big problem for me was the price, $700 for the generator, $150 for the mast and the size of the blades at 42 inches. I can buy a lot of gas for our generator for $1000 and no need to haul anything extra.

RE: Careful of Oil Change Shops....

I would like to know if anyone gets trained to work in these places. The Ford Dealer where I bought the wife's car offered a free oil change but I passed it up because they don't do oil changes, they drive everything a block over to the Quick Lube. If I do it at home it's cheaper( even if they say free), quicker and done right.

RE: Has the Internet ruined any favorite boondocking spots?

I have posted a few good sites but there are 2 that I would never tell. Sorry, make that 3. With BLM and the FS changing or closing so many good places in Colorado I don't expect to be boondocking overnight in 5 years because of the crowds in the areas that are open.

RE: canoe to take camping

I have a 17 foot Old Town Discovery, great for a week on lakes in the BWCA but if it's just for fishing while camping I would look for a 14 foot. Something easy to lift and not to expensive. The Coleman has been around for years and may be the best Cheap choice. If you don't mind spending a few hundred more for a canoe that will last, can use in white water and you can be proud of check some from REI. Once you have 1 you may decide there's more places you want to use it than you thought.

RE: Front mount hitch over 500lbs toung?

The limit may be more about the weight on your truck front springs that the hitch itself. If the springs are not a problem and you would use the hitch for moving the boat around the ramp or home any good hitch with a 500 lb limit should do. I have a 20' Sea Ray with tandem axle trailer and use a front hitch, it may be dumb but I never gave the weight a thought.

RE: Colorado RV Outlet In Golden CO - Closed?

They closed a few weeks ago, I think some units went to the KC RV sales lot north of Denver on I25, a few to the CW parking lot.

RE: Eagle, Colorado

If they are hunting from a ranch with horses they will be fine. They will not get snowed in with the horses to carry them out. If they come home telling how they worried about losing fingers and toes just laugh, there are thousands of hunters in the same mountains enjoying the snow and happy it did snow. Some years it's been bad in the 4th season but there's nothing to worry about this year.

RE: GM's 1500 truck w/4.3 V6 as a tow vehicle

My 04' S-10 Blazer has the 4.3 with the tow package. I sometimes tow a trailer thats total weight is about 2000 lbs. With just that weight I am down to 35MPH on mountain passes. The 4000 lbs. might be fine at sea level on a flat road but you can forget the get up and go part, I have little go at 2000 lbs.

RE: Eagle, Colorado

It all depends on where they are hunting, the season 3rd or 4th and if you have an area number. It was snowing and snow packed on Vail Pass this morning but lower roads were wet. It has not been that cold, a few blankets or good sleeping bag would be all they need at night. The snow is supposed to start again tonight with high winds north of I70. It has not snowed so much they could not drive out if needed but some areas would need chains or a 4X4 to be safe.
Did anyone say "Flat Tops".

Permits for Utah and Colorado

I checked who needs a out of state $25 permit for their ATV when coming to visit Colorado and it seems everyone. Since we ride a lot in Utah I checked their permit and since there is no reciprocity agreement with Colorado I need to pay $30 for each ATV we take to Utah. Is this new or have I just been lucky and not caught.

RE: Grand Canyon in mid-May . . . . . bad idea???

A little early for the North Rim, a fine time for the South Rim. There's a big difference in elevation and weather. The road to the North Rim is usually closed by snow until May.

RE: Oil Filter Money Saver

Peace of mind is worth a few dollars. If it will bother you to pay less for a filter spend the extra. I looked at the web site Mark talked about and it said Fram was junk but WalMart brand was very good and cheap. I have used Fram for 45 years without a problem but I try 1 WalMart filter and the gasket moved while putting it on and let it leak oil, there is nothing holding the seal in. Since Fram is easy to find and covers everything I drive including the ATVs I use them.

RE: Bullfrog RV parking - Lake Powell

Bullfrog has at least 3 good campgrounds, all close together on the hill above the lake. The last time I was there 2 were closed because the lake was low and there were not that many campers. They are not close to the lake so we pulled our boat out each night.

RE: Dirty Als

We were there about 3 weeks ago for a great shrimp dinner, I didn't see changes on the place from last year. I would think some would have been made if they had a major fire. The large shrimp basket was up to $12 but well worth the price.

RE: Help me think this through? Custom Pop Up Truck Camper

Do you have this picture to scale, the center area looks to wide and the toilet is not as long as the frig is wide. I hope you measured this out so you know how much room you will have. The extra insulation is a good idea, when I camp in the winter I bring the top down and sleep on the dinette area but thats just for 1 person. I have access to the area in front of the wheel wells from inside for oil, bottle jack, tow rope and anything else that might get dirty. Can you have the LP tank closer to the stove? You will need a long copper line to run from the LP tank to the frig, could you put the frig and stove on the same side as the tank and move the toilet to the other side. With your truck I don't think you need to worry about the balance.
